The Argentine Government takes the first step for the toll concession of the Mercosur road corridor (Road Corridor 18)

Legal News - January 15, 2025

Through Decree 28/25, published on January 15, 2025, the National Executive Branch initiated the bidding process for the toll concession of the roads and sections of Road Corridor 18.

Road Corridor 18 has a total length of 676 kilometers, connects four different provinces, and includes three border crossings with Brazil and Uruguay, being of utmost importance for the Argentine littoral region and MERCOSUR. New sections will be added to the current extension of the corridor, such as the section of National Route No. 12 between Ceibas and Gualeguay, and the roadway of the Agustín P. Justo International Bridge up to the international border with Brazil.

The bidding will take place within 12 months and will be managed by the Ministry of Economy. In this capacity, the Ministry may, among other things, (i) modify the composition of the sections subject to concession, being able to exclude or include new sections, (ii) call for bids, (iii) approve the bidding documents, (iv) award the bid, and (v) sign the contracts.

The National Directorate of Roads (DNV for its acronym in Spanish) will be the authority responsible for the application of the new concession contracts, exercising supervision and control.
